Charters to Bimini

Bimini is only 42 nautical miles away, but it’s a world apart. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by crystal clear turquoise waters, there is no mistaking you’re now in the Caribbean.  The pristine waters are the first indication you are in a special place, home to so some of the best sportfishing in the world.  No wonder the likes of Ernest Hemingway loved the island, the people, and fished these haloed grounds for giant bluefin tuna.

Bimini is still known for giant tuna that come in from the ocean depths to cross the shallow Bahama bank.  Florida anglers making the trek also target trophy sized wahoo and mahi, and unparalleled bottom fishing for grouper and snapper.

One specialized fishery is known as the mutton spawn. Anglers from near and far make this annual pilgrimage that occurs around the full moon in the summer months, typically May and June. During this time, mutton snapper congregate in very large numbers along the reef to spawn. If you catch the spawn, the fishing can be spectacular.

Capt. Ralph fishes the mutton spawn in the Bahamas every year.  You can now join him in this endeavor.  Sea Cross is also available year-round to make the crossing to Bimini (2-day minimum) where you enjoy some of the hottest fishing you’ve ever experienced. It’s true what they say, “It’s always better in the Bahamas.”

Other Activities

There’s plenty to do in the Bahamas besides fishing. Other activities include world-class snorkeling and diving on the reefs.  You can find beautiful underwater habitats just off the beach with snorkel gear, or you can explore some of the nearby reefs and wrecks – like the wreck of the SS Sapona or the smuggler’s plane.

Bimini is a great place to just explore on your own and do some sightseeing.  It’s small enough to discover on foot, but if your time is limited another option is to rent a golf cart. There’s also a tram that runs through the island stopping at all the hot spots – so you can leave the driving up to them.

There also lots of local eateries and watering holes.  There are many establishments that will cook your catch.  Have a sunset dinner on the waterfront, sip on some rum runners or follow the music to nightly live entertainment!  Try some of the local fresh conch fritters or conch salad made in the true Bahamas style!
